It's Bank Holiday Monday here in the UK, but as we are still in Lockdown it's kind of just another day!! Although the sun is shining and there isn't a cloud in the sky, we plan on heading out for a lovely walk and possibly some time in the paddling pool later with Imogen. Got to make to most of the Sunshine!
Today I have this stunning little gift box, measuring 3 1/2", x 3 1/2" x 1" decorated with this fantastic faux metal embellishment. I saw the technique many years ago by Jennifer McGuire and I've used it on several projects since. I was going through my stash and saw this shape and though I would try it out again - and I am so please with the results. If you haven't tried this before, you really should give it a go - it's fun and can give an amazing effect to your project.
Measurements
Basic Black Cardstock
1pc - 9" x 6 1/2"
scrap for one die cut shape
Gray Granite
Scraps for the die cut element.
Take the die and run it through your big shot and cut three shapes. Stack and glue these together and leave to dry. Once dry cover the front of the die cut with lots of Versamark ink. I actually took the pad to the die cut and kinda smooshed it on. Then add lots of silver embossing powder, gently tap off the excess using your heat tool, melt all the powder until it is smooth. Repeat the embossing process two or three times. What you will find it that it gets thicker and really smooth - giving an effect of metal.
Cut one of the die shapes in basic black and trim out the hexagon from the centre. Stamp the sentiment from A Wish for Everything in Versamark and heat emboss with silver embossing powder. Add this to the centre of the silver embossed piece.
Now to create the gift box. Take you piece of Basic Black Cardstock and score as follows:-
Long Side - 1", 4 1/2", 5 1/2" & 9"
Short Side - 1", 4 1/2" & 5 1/2"
Fold along all the score lines and burnish well..
You need to start cutting away at the card to create the flaps and remove some sections. Have the cardstock in front of you as above.
- Remove the first three sections along to top line from the left and the thin one on the end, then notch in slightly on the remaining large rectangle
- On the next row down, cut down all the score lines to the next horizontal. remove the small rectangle one on the right hand side completely. Trim off a small piece of card from the top of the two squares and notch slightly. Remove the large rectangle in between these squares completely.
- cut up all the score lines along the bottom of the card to the first horizontal, and remove the rectangle on the right completely. You will be left with a shape like this.
Add tear and tape to the under side of the skinny rectangular tab on the right hand side and fold it round and adhere to the opposite side. at the bottom, fold in the sides, back and then adhere the front panel down to create your base.
Add the silver embellishment to the front of the box.
I didn't feel it needed anything else super duper fancy, as I didn't want to detract from the beautiful faux silver metal embellishment I had created.
